The American Tobacco Company was founded in 1890 by J. B. Duke as a merger between a number of tobacco manufacturers and would later become one of the original 12 members of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in 1896.The company built a processing plant and a group warehouses here in Reidsville, North Carolina. Construction of these warehouses began 1926 would eventually number ninety with completion in around 1932.
Much has changed in 75 years since the last timber was laid into place in those old warehouses. In the late 1980s American Tobacco left Reidsville, leaving nearly a century of history behind.
This is where we enter the story.
